Leading social media monitoring and analysis experts are launching a new course for journalism students at the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridsky".
The main lecturer is Boyan Ivanovich, a PhD student at the faculty. Among the guest lecturers is Georgi Auad, Director of media analysis agency Perceptica and an AMEC-certified expert.
What the course covers
The new course, titled "Social media monitoring", gives students grounding in concepts fundamental to social communication in the context of modern social media. The practical advantages of analysing user comments are presented in detail - including their influence on society, the specifics of online social communication, the relationship between users and brands, the many possibilities for interaction during campaigns, and current tendencies in the way social media is evolving.
Students will have the chance to apply knowledge from their other courses and gain practical skills for content analysis across a wide range of communication channels:
- Forums and blogs
- Traditional media - both print and online editions
From classroom to client work
As part of the course, students will be presented with an unedited communications excerpt and a specific task: analyse the information inside, extract insights, and provide advice on managing the client's communications strategy.
"Students who excel at the task will have the chance to take up an internship and full-time employment at media monitoring and analysis agency Perceptica," Boyan Ivanovich said.
