Journalism students will get to know media monitoring and analysis of social media

Leading social media monitoring and analysis experts start a new course for journalism students from the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridsky”.

Boyan Ivanovich is the main lector, who is also a PhD student in the faculty of Journalism. Among the guest-lectors is Georgi Auad, Director of media analysis agency Perceptica, who is also an AMEC-certified expert.

The new course titled “Social media monitoring” will offer students knowledge on concepts fundamental to social communications in the context of modern social media. The practical advantages of analysing users’ comments will be presented, as well as their influence on society. The course will explore the specifics of online social communications, the relationship between users and brands, the many possibilities for interaction during campaigns, and the tendencies for social media development.

Students will have the chance to apply the knowledge they’ve gained in other courses and will gain valuable practical skills for content analysis in various communications channels such as Facebook, Twitter, forums, blogs and traditional media (print and online editions).

As a part of the course, students will be presented with an unedited communications excerpt and a specific task to analyse the information inside, extracting insights and advice on managing the client’s communications strategy, Boyan Ivanovich said, adding that the students who excel at the task will have a chance to take up an internship and full-time employment at media monitoring and analysis agency Perceptica.
